TikTok Link Preview Checker
A TikTok video URL carries a generated share image and a short title. Paste that URL, or the page you link from TikTok, to read the tags. The cards below are the other platforms that read the same tags — Peekly does not draw the TikTok app.
How a TikTok share card is built
- The tags on a video page. TikTok does not publish a webmaster guide for link previews. A public video page does send Open Graph tags in the HTML, and they are not the caption. On https://www.tiktok.com/@scout2015/video/6718335390845095173 the document title and og:title were both "TikTok · Scout, Suki & Stella". There was no og:description. og:type was website, og:site_name was TikTok, and og:url was that full video URL. og:image was an absolute URL on tiktokcdn-us.com whose path included the size token tplv-photomode-video-share-card:1200:630. twitter:card was summary_large_image and twitter:image repeated the same file, both written as property attributes rather than name. The caption people see inside the app was not in those tags. A share card built from this HTML is the creator's name and a 1200×630 image. Changing the cover in TikTok is how that image changes. There is no og:image you can author on tiktok.com.
- oEmbed, and the signed image. TikTok's embed docs describe GET https://www.tiktok.com/oembed?url= plus a video URL. The response follows the oEmbed spec. For a video object the required fields are html, width, and height. Title, author, and thumbnail_url are optional. Fetches of public video URLs came back without them: type video, a player iframe, provider_name TikTok, width 325, height 578, and an embed_product_id. An embed uses that iframe. A link preview that hoped oEmbed would supply the thumbnail has to read og:image from the page instead. That image URL is signed. The one on the page above carried x-expires and a signature, so it is not a permanent file. A platform that saved the image URL and fetched it after the expiry gets nothing, even though a fresh fetch of the video page returns a new signature. Paste the video URL here to see the title and image URL TikTok is serving right now. This checker downloads the image and reports whether that URL still loads.
https://www.tiktok.com/oembed?url=https://www.tiktok.com/@scout2015/video/6718335390845095173 - A page you link from TikTok. TikTok does not publish a crawler, a tag list, or a pixel size for a website saved on a profile. The website field is a URL and a label you type. The Open Graph tags on that URL matter when someone copies it into an app that unfurls links, and when you want the page itself to be ready. Put og:title, og:description, and an absolute https og:image in the HTML the server sends. A tag that appears only after JavaScript runs is invisible to a crawler that does not execute it. 1200×630 is the large-card size this checker measures, from Facebook's published image guide. TikTok does not publish that number for inbound links. tiktok.com's own robots.txt disallows Bytespider for the whole site, along with a list of other bots, and the general rules disallow /link. Bytespider is not documented as the share-card fetcher. Blocking it on your site, or allowing it, is not a switch for previews of your pages. TikTok does not publish a debugger. A query string such as ?v=2 is a different URL.
<meta property="og:title" content="Page title"> <meta property="og:description" content="One or two sentences."> <meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/og.png"> <meta property="og:url" content="https://example.com/page"> - Short links. The oEmbed docs and the tags above use the full video URL, tiktok.com/@user/video/id. TikTok also hands out short links on vm.tiktok.com and vt.tiktok.com. Those hosts redirect to a video page when the code is valid. A crawler that stops on the short URL never sees the video's title or image. An unrecognized short code redirects to the TikTok homepage, whose card is not the video. Paste the full URL when you can. This checker follows up to five redirects and then reads the page it lands on. There is no TikTok tool that rewrites a card another platform already stored. The Refresh a Link Preview Cache page lists the tool each of those platforms actually documents.

FAQ
+Is Peekly free?
Yes. Checking a single URL is free forever — no signup and no limit on one-off checks. Batch watching and monitoring may arrive later as a paid Pro plan; the free single-URL tool stays.
+Why does my link show no image when I share it?
Usually one of four things: there's no og:image tag, the image URL is relative instead of absolute, the image is behind a login, firewall or bot block, or the file is too big or in an unsupported format like SVG. Peekly checks all four and tells you which one it is.
+What size should my og:image be?
1200×630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) as a PNG or JPG under about 300 KB. That size works for large cards on X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Discord, Slack and WhatsApp.
+Do I need twitter: tags if I already have Open Graph tags?
X reads og:title, og:description and og:image as fallbacks, but you still need twitter:card set to summary_large_image if you want the big image card. Without it, X shows a small thumbnail.
+I fixed my tags but the old preview still shows. Why?
Platforms cache link previews, sometimes for days. Facebook and LinkedIn let you force a refresh with their own debugging tools. On X, Slack and Discord the cache usually expires on its own, or you can add a query string such as ?v=2 to the URL.
+Do you store the pages I check?
No. We fetch the page once to read its <head>, show you the result, and don't save the page or the result. We only fetch public http(s) URLs, and private or internal addresses are blocked.
+Are the previews pixel-perfect?
They're close approximations of each platform's current card layout, built from the same tags the platforms read. Platforms change their designs from time to time, so treat them as a very good guide rather than a screenshot.
